In the frontier chemistry project I will be creating an online resource containing local floral from the Eastern Deciduous Forest and Tall Grass Prairie to identify the active compounds responsible for medical exploitation.
1.it is important to properly identify a plant/root correctly because if you are going to use this plant or root to heal some sort of malady then it is imperative to know exactly what it is. If you do not know what the plant is it could have fatal consequences if you ingest or apply it to your body, as it may be poisonous and cause your body a great deal of harm.
2.To effectively use plants one must have a understanding of the different types of plants that they may encounter, so that they can use them properly and safely.
3.When traveling in different seasons the plants that one encounters will be different because some plants grow earlier in the year and some grow later in the year, so traveling during the month of December in a forest you may encounter different plants than if you were traveling in June in the same place.
4.As a scientist it would be beneficial to develop a relationship with the local peoples about the plant habitat because the local peoples may know more about what grows in their area, where the different plants can be found, what time of year they grow and other things of the sort. Having a relationship with the natives would allow you to further enhance your knowledge of plants and the area you are studying
5.If i was found without traditional medicines I would not trust my knowledge of local flora to treat illness or disease. I feel that I do not have enough experience dealing with plant life and that I would possibly use a poisonous plant unknowingly and harm myself.
